Bechtel is designing, constructing and commissioning the world largest radioactive waste treatment plant for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Site in southeastern Washington state. The Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant will use vitrification technology to process and solidify 56 million gallons (210 million liters) of radioactive and chemical waste stored at the Hanford site, which is a byproduct of plutonium production during World War II and the Cold War era. The project is the largest undertaking of its kind and one of DOE's most technically challenging cleanup projects. Its construction spans 65 acres (26 hectares) with four major nuclear facilities- Pretreatment, Low-Activity Waste Vitrification, High-Level Waste Vitrification and Analytical Laboratory- as well as operations and maintenance buildings, utilities, other support facilities.

Position is located in Richland, WA, work a 4/10's schedule, Monday-Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Schedule is subject to change. Relocation is authorized for this position.

**Role Overview**

Plans, writes, edits, proofreads, and coordinates the production of moderate to complex technical documents and presentations with accuracy, consistency, professional quality, and conformance to appropriate style guide. Complexity is determined by technical terminology, length, scope, production methods, and client direction.

Principle responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

o Plans, writes, edits, proofreads, and coordinates the production of moderate to complex technical documents, procedures and other print and electronic media for the Waste Treatment Plant Project (WTP).

o Plans format of documents, organizes content, writes/edits text, and provides instructions for final reproduction. Works online as required.

o Collaborates with authors, subject matter experts, and professional staff while preparing a full range of technical documents.

o Reviews document requirements (including content and schedule) with customers and provides guidance for successful and timely product completion.

o Recommends and coordinates document formatting, form development, graphic design, reprographics, and document processing support.

o Edits and/or rewrites draft documents to industry and government standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related procedures.

o Ensures that material is structured and formatted logically and resolves inconsistencies.

o Works with authors to resolve editorial and/or content issues.

o Monitors job progress and alerts responsible supervisor when schedules appear to be in jeopardy.

o Maintains complex electronic file management and configuration control.

o Assists other publications staff, as required. May review work of other publications staff members.

o Works overtime as required.

**Basic Qualifications:**

o Bachelor Degree in English, Journalism, Technical Communications or related publications field and one year of related experience; or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or equivalent and seven years of related experience.

o Must be able to demonstrate basic to intermediate proficiency using Microsoft Word. A skills assessment will be administered to test proficiency.

o Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and proper use of syntax. A skills assessment will be administered to test proficiency.

o Must have excellent clerical proofreading skills. A skills assessment will be administered to test proficiency.

**Minimum Qualifications:**

o Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen, physical (if located at the construction site), and background check.

o Proficiency with standard document formatting/editing/production software, including electronic comment incorporation, importing graphic files, formatting tables, and applying templates.

o Experience performing online and traditional editing/proofreading tasks using appropriate editing/proofreading methods.

o Vocabulary of the relevant technical disciplines.

o Knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, composition, and style.

o Skilled at drafting simple to complex documents to produce a logical format and structure and to resolve inconsistencies.

o Ability to perform substantive edits, write original text, and work with technical authors to rewrite text.

o Ability to review, format, and edit content to professional standards while conforming to appropriate style guide and other document-related guides and procedures.

o Ability to identify and apply appropriate level of edit based on considerations such as customer expectation, audience, visibility, and project/corporate standards.

o Competence in handling complex publication assignments with minimal supervision.

o Ability to act as a lead writer/editor for large, multifunctional, and/or high-profile document assignments.

o Experience interfacing with authors, subject matter experts, publications staff, and document control staff while preparing and coordinating a full range of technical documentation and other publication products.

o Ability to work effectively within an electronic document management system.

o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

o Comprehensive knowledge of current publication production methods.

o Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.

o Ability to participate as publications representative at various Project office locations on multi-disciplined teams planning and executing large, multi-functional, and high-profile document assignments.

o Ability to work overtime on short notice, as needed.

**Preferred Qualifications:**

o Familiar with producing nuclear safety documentation.

o Familiar with scientific/engineering principles and terminology related to engineering for nuclear facility components, systems, design, and operations.

o Understands trademark, copyright, and corporate identity standards and guidelines.

o Performs research to support document production.

o Demonstrated ability to work with people of varied backgrounds and objectives.

o Knowledge of procedure development skills that may be specific to or across various disciplines of administrative polices, engineering, procurement, construction, startup, and/or operations.
