Job Description**

This Cyber Security Engineer position serves as a technical leader in PNNL's growing cyber security portfolio, with a focus on providing technical expertise, guidance, and project leadership for federal projects.

As a Senior Cyber Security Engineer, you are recognized for your unique knowledge as a technical expert and use that expertise to guide the successful completion of major programs. You are a key contributor to proposals and lead the development of novel technical approaches to solving complex cyber security challenges for IT, OT, and/or embedded systems, networks, and hardware.

You will collaborate with PNNL staff to identify sponsor gaps and you will drive the development of solutions for sponsor organizations. You will build or expand relationships with other DOE labs to collaborate on large-scale projects of national importance. You maintain strong awareness of trends in sponsor organizations and the external cyber security landscape, and advise PNNL on developing strategies to respond to those trends.

You are self-directed and will function independently with high level direction. You are proactive about seeking out new opportunities and opening new doors, including seeking out and cultivating potential partnerships in areas where PNNL's research and development can be introduced. You will mentor other staff and will facilitate collaboration between PNNL teams.

You report to the Technical Group Manager for Cyber Security and have accountability to program managers and sector managers across the National Security Directorate, helping to establish and execute cyber security programs.

Operating on the data-information-knowledge continuum, staff at PNNL employ diverse methods to confront significant problems of national interest--from distilling distributed data into knowledge that supports decision processes, to enabling resilient technologies that enhance computing at extreme scales, to equipping cyber defenders with tools that prevent damaging cyber-attacks.

Our research portfolio--spanning from basic to applied--includes data and computational engineering, high-performance computing, applied mathematics, semantic and human language technologies, machine learning, data and computing architectures, systems integration, and software and application development.

Computing researchers and practitioners work side by side to apply advanced theories, methods, algorithms, models, evaluation tools and testbeds, and computational-based solutions address complex scientific challenges affecting energy, biological sciences, the environment, and national security.
